Hi, after using my GMC300 for over 3 year 24/7 i see i now have COM3 port error. tried other port #'s and get the same thing. Did my GMC300 finally die? What would be the best method to properly test the USB port?
Thanks

Are you using windows? An automatic windows update could possibly cause that by updating the rs232/USB driver to an incompatible version.
Have yout tried, reinstalling the driver from this webiste?

I looked at this driver and it didn't do anything. I use the prolific usb to serial drivers and have worked fine. Plus i have other devices that use this driver and they are still working. I really think my GMC300 went south. I'd sure hate to buy a new one. :(

Just realized, I pointed you to the wrong driver (ftdi). The prolific driver for the gmc300 is here: http://www.gqelectronicsllc.com/downloads/download.asp?DownloadID=60
Other devices may work with a newer driver but your gmc300 probably not.
Try different ports as well. Sometimes USB devices refuse to work on specific ports while on other ports they work.

Thanks nudnik but that didn't work. I climbed up on the roof today and checked out the unit. Replaced the battery even though it should draw its current from the USB cable. The GMC-300 seems to be working fine but it has lost its communications via the USB port. I tested with another USB cable and computer, no communications..

I tried a factory reset and still no communications. Not sure if i did it right. what is the proper procedure? i selected "yes" and thats as far as it goes.

Now What?

No, it is not. It's just electronics.
have you tried to get in touch with the seller by mail? Maybe repair is an option?

Isn't this forum hosted by the seller of this product? I was hoping they might step in and join the conversation.
I bought the 300 from this website, i also developed a php program for it offered for free here in downloads, and have given the seller free advertisement with a link from my webpage. It seems it is now broken, but.... When i get some time i plan on climbing back up on the roof and taping on the unit with a sledge hammer to see if i can fix it.

Your GMC-300 is made 3 year ago and now the new GMC-300E Plus used CH340 USB chip. Which has better compatibility on Windows driver and better hardware stability.

There are more than one factors can cause the comport fail. If you did not change any thing in Windows, then most likely the problem is related to the hardware. It seems your GMC-300 installed on your roof for 3+ years. The USB cable may be need to be checked as well as all contacting pints.

Thank you for sharing your software.

You can send the unit back for the service. Write to support@gqelectronicsllc.com for the service.

I ordered a new usb cable to give it one last chance. I'll try this and check the pins on the unit.

I did thank you so much. I assume the GMC320e use the same prolific serial to usb driver correct?

Thanks again

Installed new 320, added the provided serial to usb driver and it worked like a charm. What is the bit rate supposed to be on the 320 plus?
Thank you

The new GMC-320Plus uses CH340 as USB chip. The driver has no problem on all Windows.

The GMC-320 default baud rate is 115200. However, i can be set to other rate.
