Hi everyone,

after lurking around a lot for years, I decided to buy a counter.
I went for a 500+ as I don't need any fancy accuracy, still I liked the idea to contribute to the GMCMap community.
I bought it from Amazon (local italian branch) but after a few days it stopped connecting to wifi, showing "WiFi Module Error" for most wifi related options in menu.
Even trying to see the MAC Address ends up (quickly) in a "Try again!" message.

I searched around, and I found only one other thread, from 2018, of the same error, albeit on a different model:
https://www.gqelectronicsllc.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4601

I wonder if I should try resoldering the module myself, before resorting to Amazon ...

Thanks for any hint!

Felice

I just checked, Amazon seller is GQ Electronics UK Europe, so it seems a direct buy :)

before resoldering the module try to do a Wifi Reset or remove the battery and reinsert it 30 seconds after.

Mastery is acquired by studying, with it everything becomes simple

If Damien68 suggestion did not work, you can resolder the WiFi. Make sure to protect the LCD if you want to use hot air. If it still does not work and want to return, please put a not on the unit that the device WiFi stopped working.

Ciao Felice
Before you go and open the device, did you try a full reset and then a module reset?

Non capisco perché non deve funzionare, hai beccato un device difettoso?

Sorry everyone for the long absence, and thanks for all the hints.
Didn't have time to check the GCM in the while.

Hi Damien,
I think I already tried both (I am sysadmin/tech support for a living, that's pretty standard everyday procedure, after usual reboot, lol) but I'll try again, you never know.
Thanks!

Hi EmfDev,
I'll try, thanks for the LCD suggestion.
I guess it's just a dry solder micro-crack.

Ciao ihab17,
honestly I already opened the case for a quick visual inspection.
Didn't spot anything clearly lose or broken or burnt, so I just put it back together as it was.
It worked when I set it up the first time.
Then I put it back in the box, pulled it out a week later willing to mount it fixed on the wall, and it started giving out the Wifi module error.

Grazie ;)

------------

I think I'll be able to do the tests during the weekend, will report then!

Thanks everyone.

Cheers
