HI everyone. Got a Russian, very sensitive geiger tube and I'm getting a constant count. Could it be due to background radiation? or is the counter failing at some point?

Here is the link for the tube I'm using:
www.ebay.com/itm/SBT10-RARE-USSR-Geiger-counter-NEW-TESTED-/260982645144?pt=BI_Security_Fire_Protection&hash=item3cc3c72198

This tube has 10 tubes which can be connected in parallel or not. I've tried one by one or all together getting the same result.

I'm new to this subject and don't really know what is a normal background count and what is not.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you in advance.

Anibal

Yes. That is the background radiation. Different tube may have different background CPM. Parallel 10 same type tubes do not increase the sensitivity. Eg. if each tube sensitivity is >0.1 MeV, then parallel 10 tubes still are not be able to detect <0.1MeV radiation.

But more tubes will generate more clicks once it detects the radiation above the minimum detectable level.

The GMC-080 is able to drive 10 tubes at same time. The hardware circuit has no problem.
