You will need one ea. Pedometer, one ea. 1k-Ohm resister (1/4 watt 5% tolerance, Radio Shack No. 271-1321) , and one ea. NPN type switching transister (Radio Shack No. 276-1617). Take the two screws out of the back of the Pedometer, open the case, and if it is like the one I have in my pictures, you will see the 3 parts I removed that will no longer be needed. The transitor flat side facing you and the 3 wire connections in a straight row at the bottom, from left to right is the Emmitter, Base, and Collector. In my pictures, you will see how these are connected to the circut board with the Transister flat face surface, facing up. You will also see the 1k-Ohm Resister and how it is connected to the Base wire of the Transister. From there, I took the Audio wire that came with the GMC-080 kit and stripped it to find at my amazement, three very tiny hair thin wires. One was copper, another coated red, and the blue I clipped off short and you may see it bent off to the left. In the picture, you will see how I connected those, the copper to the Emmitter connection and the red to the other end of the Resistor that is connected to the Base wire connection of the Transistor. In the back of the case, I made a small drill hole for the small Audio cord to enter and tied a knot so it would not be pulled back out. This hole is with the back and belt clip facing you, in the upper right hand area to the side of the clip.
It was a couple years ago I saw this on the Internet and I made one for another instrument, but those instructions were with an older model (with a bit different board) of the Pedometer and though I figured out the newer version I have, I can no longer find that Site to pass on to others. I'm no super electronics Tech. but hope my pictures will make it clear enough as to the connections. I just put this together and it's working like a charm on my new GMC-080. It's not a high dollar super high tech. addition to the GMC-080 but for a Poor Mans Geiger , you can see the counts register on something rather than only hearing them.
Also, I got the two I have for a $1 at a second hand store. I've been told some people have gotten them free for attending Walk-A-Thons and such. May want to see if your Wives or Girlfriends have any they will part with.
