I recently purchased a GQ GMC-300 and used it over the weekend. I fully charged the battery and then used it to test some ore samples and background levels.

When I switched the power off, the battery indicator showed almost full charge. After a couple of days, I wanted to use the meter again, but the battery had been totally drained. It was not on during this time at all.

Does the meter consume power even when switched off?

The meter has an internal real-time clock. So, it consumes little power when it is switched off. But that is very little power and it should not short the battery life to much.

It seems the battery problem. I suggest you to change the rechargeable battery. The rechargeable battery should be NiMH 9-volt battery(normaly has 8.4V marking) 150mAh or above. Example, Energizer 175mAh

Do not use 9.6V rechargeable battery. It will not get fully charged.

Thank you. I will try a new battery and report back.
