I'm new to this technology so this might be a dumb quesiton - my niece recently blew air into the sensor opening with her mouth as I was using it, will this affect the sensor?

Thanks.

Ooops, it may be ruined, but not all hope is lost.

Simply switch it on. If it shows any counts - in the order of CPM=30...50 - then it is ok.

If it does not, take a look: unscrew the backplate and carefully remove it. You should see an intact foil. If it is ruptured, GQ might do a repair with a new tube ($150 and up).
