Posted - 07/22/2018 : 13:21:26 One thing is to measure the radiation of the surroundings affecting us. This is perfectly done with a Geiger Counter like the one I have GMC-500+; the results appear in CPM and in µS/h. Quite a different thing is to measure the radioactivity which might be in a probe of food. Usually this is expressed in Becquerel/Kg. The simplest way to do this is to get a Marinelli Beaker large enough to fit your Geiger Counter and, of course, the food sample. QUESTION: has anybody at this Forum experience in measuring the radioactivity of food samples and if YES, how can you convert the CPM (Counts per Minute) output of a GMC-500+ into Becquerel/Kg? I am perfectly aware that for the measurement of radioactivity of food in fact quite sophisticated equipment is required. But, perhaps, I can get a first approximation by making use of my GMC-500+ Best regards, Chucho, Germany |

1 microsievert / Planck's constant = 1.5091902 × 10^27 becquerels / kilogram
where Planck's constant = 6.62607004 × 10^34 m2*kg / s
So you can use the uSv/h to convert it to becquerels/(kilogram*h)? But I'm not entirely sure about this. |
