The 'File/Save Realtime Data...' menu facility operates in a strange manner. I find that created data files (.rbn / .csv) are closed as soon as the 'save' button in the 'save as' dialogue window is selected. If I wish to save the data over say a 10 minute interval, I must wait ten minutes before activating the 'save' button.
I am thinking that the data files should start to build once the save button is activated and the option to restart the scan is selected. The file creation should finish only when the realtime monitoring box is deselected.
Any thoughts? |

Thanks ZLM. Your efforts and advice are much appreciated. I believe an added option to append data either by second or minute would enhance the program( by minute could be the best choice for a number of reasons ). With reference to time intervals, were you able to check the accuracy of the time-stamp value logged at the beginning of each row in saved .csv files? Here as an example are the contents of a brief .csv file named '20120916_19_30_56':

Note that the saved year, month, and day match the information in the file name but not the time components. |

That is an good example. :)
I tested software and found the software works as design.
The current "save real-time data" is not "automatic-save" feature.
The current design: The real-time monitoring mode logs all the realtime data into memory first. And then user can save the memory at any time as long as in the real-time monitoring mode.
In your case, you may want to see the software append every second data into the file end, as long as the real-time monitoring started. This is not difficult to add into the software.
The automatic saving data feature is available in GQ GMC Data Logger V5.22 Software. With this software, you just need to set a saving period. Then it will save the data periodically. But it does not append the data. |

While sittng at the PC my wife came and asked me what it was I was doing. She did not understand the content of my previous posts. When I managed to explain them with an alarm clock model she has insisted that I post the explanation because she stated that as she found it easy to understand so probably would other readers. So here goes: The current sequence of procedures required for recording realtime data is like this. Before going to sleep at night: (1) Set the alarm wake-up time but do not turn the alarm on. (2) Wake up in the morning just before the set time to turn the alarm on. (3) The alarm will now ring at the set time. Intuitively and logically the purpose for the alarm in realtime is realised by setting the time AND turning it on BEFORE going to sleep. |

Another anomally has become apparent with resultant saved realtime .csv files. While saved date values are correct the time components do not correspond with either the GQ-300 clock time or PC system time. |

Just to clarify my previous entry, PC data files are not built in realtime - the realtime monitor chech-box must first be selected, the GQ-300 and viewer program then left to run, and the 'Save Realtime data...' ONLY activated (and thus the files are created) when I wish to finish saving the accumulated data. The save option to restart the scan appears after the save is initiated and the files have been created. |
