I have been using the GMC-200 for a little while now. I have it attached to my computer and the GMCounter Pro software runs pretty much all day. At present I am only looking at the activity, as this is the only component of the graph I can be reasonably sure of in terms of accuracy.
Using the graph as a reference, I notice that my background levels usually sit under 5. I am not sure what this means, as the "Activity" label in the upper left hand corner would normally read 19-20CPM under background conditions. Is this graph labeled wrong?
Anyway, what I am really interested in is the periodic spikes I am getting. These can jump to 20 on graph (Activity 130 CPM) and last from 1-3 minutes. Today, I am getting it every 5 minutes or so, but yesterday hours could go by and then all of a sudden a spike.
Any ideas on potential sources? |

No, I think you misunderstood. The detector is on and the software setup is fine.
I'm getting events which last 30-45 seconds, sometimes just over a minute, and the activity can jump to 150 CPM.
I am wondering what sources could be producing this activity? |

I believe it is related to the incorrect signal sensitivity setting. If the detector is turned off, there should be no counting.
The audio setting adjustment takes a while to master it. The goal is to do the best to let software count one number per click.
There is a new version USB cable is comming soon, which is using USB port to connect with GMC-200/GMC-080. With this USB connection, no signal parameter setting needed, and the counting accuracy is 100%.

I don't doubt that the spikes are occurring. I can see the detector going off when they are recorded. Short lived events, those lasting less than 10 seconds, I could probably put down to events from space. But now and again, I get events which last 30-45 seconds, sometimes just over a minute, and the activity can jump to 150 CPM.
I am wondering what events can do this? |

Not sure why, but to be sure you have a correct periodic spikes, you may need to exit the software and restart software again to see if anything related to the software. |
