Hello,

I had a GQ GMC300S and recently purchased the 800 as an upgrade. I cant find any details on the Tube if its better than the 300S, but I am concerned that the Beta Sensitivity will be even less than the 300S because there are no vents around the tube to the outside.

Have most found this is the case with this unit?

The GMC-800 compared to the 300 has a sturdier case (i.e. thicker plastic), which is a good thing, and also no holes. Also good, because it does mitigate the undesirable effect of light on the Geiger tube.

This has (almost) no impact on Gamma sensitivity, even for that lowest Gamma-Energy radiation which its Geiger tube is able to detect.

However, it does have a very significant impact on beta radiation. See this other post with an almost identical topic:

the tubes are the same and the vent should not have that much effect.
