Posted - 08/30/2024 : 02:22:55 A version of the meter you're posting is for sale at Walmart for $385 US. The GQ meter with the added GM feature is $148 US and Radon alone is $98 US on Amazon. GQ's hardware is proprietary but likely similar as you surmise. GQ meters have always had a huge value component which is why I bought their complete line of GM meters over the last few years.
Don't expect to see anyone open up one of these. Voids warranty. Currently comparing my GQ Radon Pro's results with a Safety Siren Radon Pro 3 (actually a pair of those). Will report back when that is completed. Already very pleased with performance of both the Radon ionization chamber Radon readings and the GM readings as well. |

Posted - 08/29/2024 : 03:58:26 The GQ Radon Pro 2 in 1 combines a Geiger Mueller tube radiation meter with the radon ionization chamber for a much more versatile consumer tabletop radiation detector. I think components made in China but GQ historically has done final assembly and calibration here in US. At least that's my understanding. |

Posted - 08/21/2024 : 07:44:16 It was very straight forward to connect to the GMC map display and the Android phone app is very nice. Put in User ID and device ID and it uploads both numbers to respective map. Added another point to Radon map so 13 or 14 users out there at this point. |

The ionization chamber may be proprietary for radon measurement. The discussion above is the method. The same GM tube that is in the 800 appears to be in the Pro so that both are measured and displayed. You can find the demo software on the download page. These are not portable and need to be plugged in to a 5v USB-C charger. They are just nice to wander by and get updated. It does have alarms for both GM and Radon so if that should occur you will know. Working through menus shows the same six point calibration as the GMC-800 for GM meter portion. Voltage is controlled as with the GMC-800. Although voltage is different between the Pro and the GMC-800, the calibration points are the same, which is why I think it the same J321 GM tube inside the Pro.
Calibration of the Radon measure is not clear to me yet. It may be as simple as the sensitivity of the chamber * current so nothing to calibrate. There is a calibration process whereby it is zeroed in an area with no radon present. I tried that outdoors in a breeze and still seeing where it settles compared to my Safety Siren Pro 3 radon meter.

I see a "GQ RadonPro 2-in-1 Radon Gas and Radiation Monitor" gor USD 150 and a "GQ RadonScan Radon Gas Monitor" for USD90 on GQ's shopping page. Interestingly, those are not sold by Amazon, neither in Europe nor in the US.
The description of both is blahblah, to say it politely! This is as empty and hollow as a description can get.
What is the work principle? What is the system in it? What is the sensitivity of it? Nothing is said.

For a typical end window ionization chamber, the conversion formula to relate the ionization current to radon concentration in picocuries per liter (pCi/L) involves several factors, including the chamber’s sensitivity, the applied voltage, and the specific characteristics of the fill gas. Here’s a general outline of how this conversion is typically approached:
Ionization Current Measurement: The ionization chamber measures the current generated by the ion pairs created by radon decay. This current ((I)) is proportional to the radon concentration.
Sensitivity Factor: The sensitivity of the ionization chamber ((S)) is a crucial parameter. It is usually provided by the manufacturer and is expressed in terms of current per unit radon concentration (e.g., amperes per pCi/L).
Conversion Formula: The radon concentration ((C)) in pCi/L can be calculated using the formula: C=SI where:

Posted - 08/20/2024 : 04:11:10 I will sign up for these with this 2 in 1 meter and see how easy it is to have my data displayed. As a consumer device, perhaps something you pass by and glance at during the day, simplicity in seeing how your measurements 'fit in' with those around you is paramount. Haven't used this feature much. Not being able to delete a manually entered point I take to mean there is a history that is retained and if the manually entered point is entered but way off of reality then the whole string of data is corrupted, and you need to initialize the string again. I would suggest you could also contact support to see what options there are to correct data from their side.
Probably not a good idea to manually enter data if the device is working as intended. |

But the whole thing is rather half-baked, and awkward to use.
There are now 2 websites with identically named maps ("Real-Time Radiation World Map"), showing EITHER the Radon dots, or the classic CPM dots. Yet clicking on a single dot does give the history, but ONLY of the classic data, and ignores the Radon data. On both maps.
One also cannot delete any wrong points, except for deleting all of it.
I could use this URL code for the classic page, extended with a pCi value, to place data on both maps:
h**p://www.gmcmap.com/log2.asp?AID=123&GID=456&CPM=11.0&ACPM=12.0&uSV=1.30&pCi=1.40 While the classic values are shown on the Radon map when clicking on a dot, they are not shown on the map, and Rado values are not included in the history.

It posts on both maps with that line? Which means if you sign up on both maps then the Pro 2 in 1 meter will send a single data point with data for both maps.

Posted - 08/17/2024 : 16:39:52 I got my Radon Pro 2-1 GM meter today. I love the appearance of this. Colors are more soothing. Clarity of display wonderful. Looks nice like some of Amazon house control Alexa cylinder devices. I need to check ullix's inside the 800 post as the calibration points are the same as the 800 so likely the same GM tube. I will add pics shortly but have already set up my Safety Siren Pro 3 radon gas detector. That takes two days to get good reading. We'll see how it does one floor up from basement and then in basement. My pCi/L has been around 2.3 - 2.5. It will be a couple days then before I move it to next spot.
I got my 800 meter yesterday and for me another win for GQ. Lighter than the 500+ and 600+. Rubber grommet/edge gives good feeling about drop protection. Voltage in 800 set to 44 using the AA Lithium Ion Battery. The Pro gets 5V from AC converter through USB C plug and voltage setting is 20. What range of voltage numbers are you all seeing in the 800? |

The radon pro arrives today. Tabletop kind of makes it fit in Echo or other home control appliances. Perhaps GQ could create a link to ask Alexa for current radon and radiation numbers. |

Posted - 08/16/2024 : 22:31:14 Neither GeigerLog nor any other user-software can reprogram the gmcmap server! But this is what you are asking for.
You can interpret any of the 3 values CPM, ACPM, uSV as you wish and upload your numbers in whatever units you wish. But you might end up as the only person doing that and so it will not be very helpful.
You might want to look out for other similar maps, which may be offering the Radon support.

You need to register on the gmcmap site and obtain a userID and a deviceID. A userID is like 12345, a deviceID is like 12345678901. Then call the gmcmap site with any browser with e.g. such a command:
h**p://www.gmcmap.com/log2.asp?AID=01234&GID=12345678901&CPM=44&ACPM=46&uSV=0.30 and you will have placed CPM=44, ACPM=46, and uSV=0.30 on the gmcmap at the position you have registered.
GeigerLog can also do such posting from any device known to GeigerLog. |
