at least in the early days 5G uses bands up to 26GHz, not planned beyond this probably because of the absorption by atmosphere. the 60GHz band is more used for radars. not necessarily the big radars but also those used in the automobile to detect obstacles or also the radars used to open the doors in the stores or public place. For example Texas Instruments offers small chipsets for radars in the 60 -> 80Ghz bands. https://www.ti.com/sensors/mmwave-radar/industrial/overview.html but in all cases if the waves are absorbed by reasoning, in the first place it will simply produce heat like water in a microwave oven. But personally I don't really like 5G and I would prefer to see the fiber reach my house. the 5G is certainly interesting for countries like china, because of the population density the 4G network is largely saturated/outdated (communication sucks always at rush hour). But for the North America or europe, the interest is less obvious.
RF detectors chipset for these frequency bands are still rare, insensitive, and very expensive, but that may change over time |
