Background: I'm running my GMC-320 Plus from a USB power supply. The unit is securely mounted to the top front of a very heavy desk which does not shake.

Problem: Sometimes the backlight comes on all by itself. Usually it will time out according to the settings, but on occasion it just stays on. I see no logic in this behavior and wonder if the unit is starting to fail.

My statements are "stuff-a-hobbyist-says" and not in any way professional.

The GMC-320 has a built-in gyroscope. It detects the vibration. So. most likely you turned on the Motion Detection in menu, and let the motion detection pointed on back light. This means once the gyro detects a vibration , it turns on the back light.

The vibration may come from the outside of the unit, or may be the click sound of the unit speaker.
