Hello,

The GMC 320 Plus can detect Beta, Gamma and X ray radiation. I wonder if somebody could explain how to meassure them individually and how to set up the meter to do this and display that it is in a Beta, Gamma, or X meassuring mode an show the meassurement. I am trying to detect radiation in a granite countertop. Also, I would appreciate if you could explain the meassurement methodology for different cases.

Thank you,

Javier

Detects granite counter top is not problem on this Geiger counter. However, there is no way to distinguish between different radiations due to the nature of the Geiger Tube.

Hi,
newbie here.
So can someone tell me what settings I should have to get the readings from a granite counter top? and what readings are fine and what reading means I should get rid of the top and what readings mean I should run a mile...!

For the background readings we suggest:

1. Safe level. Less than 50CPM or 0.25uSv/h. Means no worry at all.
2. Attention level. 51CPM – 99CPM. OR 0.26uSv/h – 0.39uSv/h . Means you need to find out why .
3. Warning level. More than 100CPM or more than 0.40uSv/h. Means do not stay in this area for long period.

I don't agree. You can use a shield for beta radiation so it only measures gamma. You can't do it the other way around though (only measure beta).
I'm surprised the GMC counters don't come with a shield for beta radiation. Just like the probes which have a window to expose the tube.
