I have several GMC-300s, a 300E, and a 320. The problem is in extracting and saving the data in csv format using the Data Viewer ver 2.03 (needed to get info from GMC-320; older versions of the Data Viewer (i.e., v 1.14 can extract data from the GMC-300s and GMC-300E)). The data viewer v 2.03 usually hangs up when saving the csv file and the process has to be killed using the task manager. I appear to be able to extract and save the binary files from the 320, 300E, and 300s using Data Viewer v 2.03. Generation of the csv format files is problematic. When a csv file is generated, it is incomplete; usually there are header lines and a couple lines of data. I am using Data Viewer ver 2.03 on a Win7-64 machine. I have tried to de-install and re-install the Data Viewer v 2.03 several times, but the outcome with respect to saving data has not improved.
As a temporary work around I save the binary files extracted from the 320 (and 300s) to a USB drive and transfer them to an older WinXP-32 machine that has the Data Viewer ver 1.14 installed. Using Data Viewer 1.14 I am able to import the binary files and save them as csv files that can be read into excel. |

I downloaded ver 2.05 of the data viewer. I used v 2.05 today with data obtained with my gmc-320. the data viewer was able to retrieve the data and generate a binary file. the csv file generated was odd. The data shown was at 3 min intervals and the seconds field was only populated from 1 thru 45 seconds, columns 46 thru 60 were blank.
I copied the generated binary to a usb drive and transferred the binary to an older computer running the data viewer 1.14. I was able to generate a csv file that looks correct, i.e., the data is shown for each minute and each of the second fields (1 thru 60) is filled with data.
Thus, I conclude that ver 2.05 of the data viewer is not markedly improved over the previous version.

can you send your downloaded .bin to support@gqelectronicsllc.com ? so that they can find out the problem and fix it. |

a zipfile with the binary file and csv files from v 2.05 and v 1.14 has been sent to the support email address. I look forward to the resolution of this issue.

I downloaded and installed data viewer v2.06 after first removing v2.03. I took both a GMC-300 and GMC-320 with me for a few hours this afternoon. With v2.06 I was able to upload data from the GMC-300, create a binary, and a csv. The csv file appeared to be ok.
I tried to extract the data from the GMC-320 with v2.06 and was unsuccessful. I continually got a bad sync error message. I tried setting the GMC-320 and computer to 8N1 and baud rates of 57600 and 115200 and still got the sync error message.
I de-installed v2.06 of the data viewer and re-installed v2.03. With v2.03 I was able to extract the data from the GMC-320 and generate a binary, but not a good csv. I still have to copy the binary to an older computer running data viewer 1.14 to generate a csv that can be imported to excel for further analysis and graphing.
Thus, I conclude that the data viewer v2.06 is still buggy.

Has anyone had any success in using the GMC-320 for several hours to log exposure then trying to extract the data and generate a csv file using the data viewer (any version)? If so, what version did you use?

I tried on my GMC-320 with v2.06, and it works. I think your v2.06 bad sync error may be due to the USB driver not synced. I got this message sometimes, but it goes away once did following steps:
1. exit software, turn off the GMC-320, and disconnect the USB cable. 2. connect the usb cable, turn on the GMC-320 and run the software. 3. make sure the model GMC-320 is selected in the software. 4. use Auto-detect from the menu to detect the unit, and it should display the GMC-320 is connected. 5. do downloading history data
Also, make sure your GMC-320 baud rate is set to 115200.

Just some feedback from using ver 2.06 of the Data Viewer - - I've been using this version for a few weeks and it works well with all of my GMC-3xx units. I've found that it is very important to check that the USB / com port is set to the correct baud rate. For the GMC-320, this is 115200. My practice is to extract the data (saved as a .bin file) then convert the data to a .csv format for inclusion into a spreadsheet. I've more control over the graphs with the spreadsheet. The GMC-320 is a heck of a value for a nice compact data logging GM detector. |
