This geiger works great at testing samples at arms reach or closer. I was wondering how it worked picking up radioactivity at greater ranges? Say I was driving in an area where I knew there was radioactive ore. Say I knew the approximate location of a mine that was no longer used but might have radioactive samples laying around.
Would the GMC-300E be able to pick up radioactive signals from further than arm's length? Or would the samples have to be so hot that getting near them would cause me to turn green?
Also, is there some special way I should hold the device or aim it to pick up radioactivity?

if the radiation level is high enough then the GMC-300 should detect it.

There is no special way to hold the device. The Geiger tube is installed on the lower edge beside the keys. Let geiger tube close to the source will get better reading.

Thank you ZLM. I have a location in mind that I am pretty sure is still "warm". It's an old uranium mine on my Father-In-Law's property. I will take it out there and see what I can find.
