I read online that salt substitute emits a little bit of radiation. Something to do with ions of potassium chloride. I have my 300 unit setting on top of a plastic bag full of the stuff, and occasionally the measurements will peak at 40 CPM. Ambient levels are usually 10-20. Does that sound about right, or should it be more?

For the low level measurment, a cumulative testing should be used.

Steps:
1. Off and On the GMC-300 once. This will reset the total count to 0.
2. Switch the display to text mode and press S2 key to select total count on screen.
3. Place the GMC-300 close to the testing source, wait for at least 30 minutes.
4. Check the total count reading after an half hour or longer.

Then do another test without testing cource. compare those two readings.

as these are beta rays from potassium chloride, should the cover be removed to help them along their way to the tube?
