Posted - 03/18/2014 : 08:21:04 Ordered a Sanyo 18500F Li-ion battery and installed it in a new 320+ unit. Removed OEM battery and holder, cut wires to battery holder and soldered to the 18500F tabs. Fits perfectly in space where holder was, used two pieces of small foam to keep it from moving. After charging it has ran 5 days and is still showing 2 bars left on the battery indicator. Only problem was after approximately 2.5 days it shut off by itself. After restarting it showed only one bar missing from the indicator and was running fine. No logging enabled and speaker off for this test. I assume the shut down was due to firmware or software being set up that way. The battery is rated at 1620 mah. Just wanted to put this up here for those needing more battery time. |

Yeah, I got that. I've also discovered that the 14500 is MUCH more common than the 18500, so I'll probably just stick with the original configuration as I think I'm more likely to have devices in the future with 14500s and that'll simplify my battery stocking.
Cheers. |

Why do I have the feeling that the GMC-320+ I just bought is about to be obsoleted by the GMC-320++ or GMC-330? From the photo it looks like there would have been absolutely no problem using removable button-top 18500 instead of the 14500 based upon dmzimm's info.
Are those test terminals above the battery and below the Geiger tube? Perhaps they could be placed elsewhere so that an 18650 would fit? |
