Hello! I just bought the GMC-300 off Amazon. Should be getting it very soon. I've been reading up on the definition of units such as Sv and CPM, but I'm pretty much a total rookie when it comes to this.
Is there a newbie guide somewhere that you would recommend that could explain what I should know? Like what is a "regular" reading, what's considered abnormal, what's the best unit I should measure in, what's this conversion mumbo jumbo I was reading about in another thread here, etc.?
Do I have this straight? If I'm measuring in micro sieverts per hour, then I should be worried if it's reading over like 2 uSv/h maybe?
Thanks for any help or reference you can provide. I'm looking forward to running this around town and reporting back. In my city, we had a big radiation scare around a high school where cancer rates among the kids were supposedly higher than normal. They shut down the site and built a new school. I'd like to check it out! |

Malaysia is geographically close to Japanese waters.It has been reported that now young Japanese manifest a higher incidence of thyroid nodules Blue dolphin tuna fish caught off the shores of Philippines and Hawaii show high levels of radioactivity. Recently,there was report of the colour changes undergone in the flora and fauna in the Japanese landscape. Obviously,genetic mutation is at work . China, at long last, admitted that environmental toxicity is the causative factor in carcinogensis. Cancer is caused by multiple concomitants at the immunogentic level.

There are lot of radiation knowledge arround internet. But I think the most important to know is the background reading arround you.
The regular background radiation level should be arround 0.05 to 0.30 uSv/h for most of places. Some places may be as high as 0.5uSv/h.
Mosr of places background reading should less than 100 CPM.
