Just FYI...
I had the wall charger plugged in while I was moving my unit with the external cable attached. (This would have happened even if it wasn't attached).. one of the 115v wall pins touched the shield wire of the coax BNC connector (+ to tube) and it 'snapped' loudly. :-(
Needless to say I "Let the smoke out".
No response to my check source, but HV is still present (I got shocked while testing it, 520v).

Anyway.. I guess the point is that the internal 9v battery will 'reverse power' the wall charger when it's plugged in to the GMC, but not the wall. Still a fine product, it was all my fault...
I bought 2 more off the ebay store.
Going to be more careful in the future.

ENIGMA6: thiat is not a big problem. Disconnect the power adapter from GMC-060 once you disconnect it from wall.

Sorry you had a problem. I had noticed the power supply led would remain lit when unplugged from ac main if the power supply was still pulled into the geiger counter. Thanks for the info. Ted

It seems the radiation pulse collection part been damaged.
